Director Jung Ju-ri’s new film ‘Dora’ has been invited to the Director’s Fortnight at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, and the support from newcomer Episode Company is drawing significant attention.
Episode Company is a global IP content company powered by AI and new technology. Its very first distribution project, ‘Dora’, is set for a world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival’s Director’s Fortnight.
‘Dora’ is the latest work from Director Jung Ju-ri, who has been invited to Cannes three times in a row for ‘Do-hee’ and ‘Next Sohee’. This international co-production involves four countries: Korea, France, Luxembourg, and Japan. The film delicately portrays the stories of two women traveling between Korea and Japan, starring Japan Academy Award winner Sakura Ando and rising star Kim Do-yeon. The movie will have its world premiere at the Director’s Fortnight on May 17 (local time).
The company is also aggressively pursuing partial investments. It has confirmed partial investments for Director Yeon Sang-ho’s ‘Gunche’, opening May 21, and ‘Wild Thing’, opening June 3. By employing a diversified strategy that encompasses both tentpole and auteur films, the company aims to breathe new life into the Korean film market.
Episode Company is operated by professionals from major investment and distribution firms, utilizing their expertise to secure content that balances artistic quality with marketability. They are also implementing strategies to minimize investment risks.
An official from Episode Company stated, “The selection of our first distribution work ‘Dora’ and the strategic investment lineup for May and June are the starting points for the company’s new challenges.” They added, “We will continue to promote vitality in the film industry alongside talented creators and suggest a new wind and a progressive direction for the Korean film world.”
