TWICE's Jeongyeon Opens Up About Overcoming Cushing's Syndrome and the Support of Her Sister Gong Seung-yeon

TWICE member Jeongyeon touched fans’ hearts by publicly expressing her gratitude to her older sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon.

In the preview for the 343rd episode of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ aired on the 13th, Gong Seung-yeon’s upcoming appearance was revealed. Gong Seung-yeon shared a funny moment, saying that when she bragged about her appearance to her sister, Jeongyeon responded, “TWICE hasn’t even been on yet!”

The preview also featured a surprise video letter from Jeongyeon that left Gong Seung-yeon shocked. Through tears, Jeongyeon confessed, “There was a time when I was struggling mentally, and my sister held onto me and took me to the hospital.”

Back in 2020, Jeongyeon suffered from Cushing’s syndrome as a side effect of steroids during treatment for a neck disc. She subsequently took several breaks from activities due to panic and anxiety symptoms. She has since recovered her health and returned to TWICE activities.

Gong Seung-yeon also shared her own hardships, having spent seven years as a trainee at SM Entertainment without debuting. Recalling those days, she said, “I felt anxious and truly hopeless,” and mentioned that her mother had told her, “I hope the eldest succeeds and can lead the younger siblings.” After a long period of being unknown, Gong Seung-yeon is now hitting her peak 15 years after her debut, leading the MBC Friday-Saturday drama ’21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife’ to a peak viewership rating of 13.3%.

Gong Seung-yeon’s full appearance on ‘You Quiz’ will air next week.
