A Rollercoaster of Tears and Laughter! Lee So-na, Heo Chan-mi, and More Bring Fresh Energy to 'Miss Trot For You'

A press conference for TV Chosun’s new variety show ‘Miss Trot For You’ was held on the morning of the 14th at the TV Chosun studio in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. CP Min Byung-joo, PD Lim Ji-hoon, entertainer Boom, singer Ahn Sung-hoon, and the ‘Miss Trot 4’ Top 7—Jin Lee So-na, Sun Heo Chan-mi, Mi Hong Sung-yoon, Gil Ryeo-won, Yoon Tae-hwa, Yoon Yoon-seo, and Yeom Yu-ri—attended. Song Eun-i was unable to attend due to a scheduled commitment.

‘Miss Trot For You’ is the first spin-off variety show for the Top 7, featuring a passionate and touching series of duet battles between the ‘Miss Trot 4’ Top 7 and special partners. The MCs are Boom, Song Eun-i, and ‘Mr. Trot 2’ Jin Ahn Sung-hoon.

CP Min shared his ambitions for the new program, stating, “We are currently pushing ‘TTT.’ Please remember ‘Miss Trot For You’ on Thursdays. We’ve maximized the differences between this and other spin-off programs.”

PD Lim teased, “The Top 7 are the elite members of ‘Miss Trot 4,’ so they’ll show us some amazing stages. While ‘Miss Trot For You’ might seem cute on the surface, once you open the package, it’s a full-on competition program. There are preliminaries, finals, and eliminations. The biggest difference for this spin-off is that it features serious and wonderful performances.”

The production team explained the reason for casting Ahn Sung-hoon and Song Eun-i as MCs. PD Lim explained, “Having duet stages with non-celebrity participants is a major point of differentiation. We brought in two new MCs to match that change. Boom, as the veteran, will continue to be active in various ways.”

The cast shared their feelings: Yoon Yoon-seo said, “It’s an honor to appear with the older sisters,” Gil Ryeo-won added, “I’ll show a different charm from ‘Miss Trot 4’,” and Heo Chan-mi expressed, “It’s my first fixed program in 16 years since my debut, so I’m feeling emotional and excited. I’m looking forward to seeing who my duet partner will be.”

Lee So-na showed her excitement, saying, “This is also my first fixed program. I’m looking forward to singing with participants who have various stories,” while Hong Sung-yoon said, “I’m having a great time feeling supported by standing on stage with someone else instead of alone.”

Yoon Tae-hwa shared, “I wanted to make it into the Top 7 because I wanted to appear in a spin-off program. I’m enjoying the filming, feeling like I’m on an emotional rollercoaster of laughter and tears,” and Yeom Yu-ri added a warm sentiment, “I feel a family-like bond with the members. The duet format itself makes me feel like family since it’s about matching breath with a partner.”

Boom, the veteran of ‘Miss Trot’ spin-offs, highlighted, “The fact that we’re with non-celebrity participants is a huge difference. The stories, emotions, and songs blended together made me feel choked up and excited during the first recording. I believe interacting with viewers is the most important part of trot. Since I’m also a registered singer with the Singers Association, I want to try performing on stage myself,” showing his confidence.

When asked about the process of selecting non-celebrity participants, PD Lim replied, “Naturally, we looked at singing ability. Since it’s literally a competition, we believed that those who sing well would create synergy with the Top 7. On top of that, we focused on people with star quality and diverse charms.”

The cast feels significant pressure entering another competition immediately after ‘Miss Trot 4’. Lee So-na strengthened her resolve, saying, “I probably feel the most responsibility and pressure. I need to do well with my duet partner. I’m doing my best to make sure we don’t get eliminated.”

Heo Chan-mi joked, “Since participants are chosen based on their singing skills, I end up learning how the other person interprets emotions. I’m practicing even harder because I’m worried they might be better singers than me.”

Hong Sung-yoon caused laughter by confessing, “I have no doubt that my duet partner will be great. I’m just at the beginning stage, so I hope they don’t trust me too much. I hope we can rely on each other.”

Boom spoke about the importance of the MC’s role, boasting, “I learned a lot from senior Kang Ho-dong through ‘Star King.’ I also learned a lot about death matches, rankings, and competition while watching senior Kim Sung-joo. I think ‘Miss Trot For You’ is the program I can do best. It has everything: non-celebrity participants, rankings, and competition. Rather than a dominant style of hosting, I want to be an MC who claps and enjoys. Sometimes, I’ll channel senior Kim Sung-joo for my hosting.”

He added with a joke, “Senior Kang Ho-dong once advised me to ‘love that person.’ So, every round, I try to love the participants as they come out. I give them love until the end.”

Ahn Sung-hoon said, “I think this could be helpful for those who haven’t had the chance to sing. I want to show myself empathizing with the participants’ stories and taking good care of them. Right now, I’m Boom’s right hand, but later I’ll become Boom’s torso and even his head as an MC,” making Boom nervous.

Finally, the production team expressed their hope to get a ‘fresh’ reaction from viewers. PD Lim shared his wish, “I hope the Top 7’s charms are elevated by meeting people with diverse appeals. I hope that image reaches the viewers. It would be great if the ratings are high.”

Meanwhile, ‘Miss Trot For You’ premieres today at 10 PM.
