Capture from TVING's 'The Legend of the Cooking Soldier'

The behind-the-scenes secrets of the most bizarre scenes in ‘The Legend of the Cooking Soldier’ have finally been revealed!

On May 13, a behind-the-scenes video for episodes 1 and 2 of ‘The Legend of the Cooking Soldier,’ titled ‘The Descent of Seaweed Angel Kang Seong-jae,’ was uploaded to TVING’s official channel.

The video captures Park Ji Hoon’s hilarious struggle to bring these unique scenes to life.

In the drama, the scene where Kang Seong-jae (Park Ji Hoon) falls into a deep imaginary sea after tasting soup made by Sergeant Yoon Dong-hyun (Lee Hong-nae) wasn’t actually filmed underwater. Park Ji Hoon was actually suspended by wires, perfectly executing the breathless movements and facial expressions.

The same goes for the scene where Battalion Commander Baek Chun-ik (Jung Woong-in) experiences the ‘taste of heaven’ while eating sea urchin seaweed soup. Park Ji Hoon wore a full-body seaweed costume and relied on wires, fighting back laughter throughout the shoot.

Other making-of clips were also released, including the bean sprout battle scene and the moment of unit assignment.

Netizens reacted with amazement, commenting, “This is the first time in my life I’ve come specifically to watch drama behind-the-scenes,” “I totally thought it was an underwater shoot,” “Park Ji Hoon is so good with his expressions and body,” “Please interview them on how they made the seaweed outfit,” and “I thought it was filmed in a pool, but it was CG!”

Meanwhile, ‘The Legend of the Cooking Soldier,’ based on the popular webtoon of the same name, is a military cooking fantasy drama about Private Kang Seong-jae, who trades a gun for a kitchen knife and a belt for an apron to become a ‘legendary cooking soldier.’
