The production team of tvN’s new variety show ‘Undercover Chef’ released a trailer on the 14th, giving us a glimpse into the nerve-wracking first day of undercover employment for Sam Kim, Jung Ji-sun, and Kwon Sung-jun.
‘Undercover Chef’ is a program where famous chefs go undercover as the youngest kitchen staff in restaurants located in the countries that inspired their culinary roots to tackle hidden missions. Western chefs Sam Kim and Kwon Sung-jun are heading to Parma and Naples, Italy, while Chinese chef Jung Ji-sun is off to Chengdu, China.
The trailer captures the moment Sam Kim, Jung Ji-sun, and Kwon Sung-jun leave their titles behind and face a brutal first day in authentic local kitchens.
First up, Sam Kim, who infiltrated Parma, Italy, under the fake identity of a former farmer, suffers the humiliation of being completely ignored in the kitchen. Despite politely asking if there is anything he can do in the fast-paced environment, the only answer he receives is a firm “NO.”
In Naples, Italy, Kwon Sung-jun, posing as a former baseball player, also experiences an unexpected struggle with ingredients. After he messily chops some potatoes, a local senior gives him a sharp lesson, saying, “This is how you peel potatoes.” Even as the winner of Netflix’s ‘Culinary Class Wars’ Season 1, Kwon Sung-jun finds himself bombarded with nagging in Italian for his potato-peeling skills.
The production team shared, “Unexpected and realistic situations unfold. The process of starting from the bottom and challenging the peak of the kitchen within five days will provide fresh fun and a thrilling sense of catharsis.”
