Chef Ahn Sung-jae, known for ‘Culinary Class Wars,’ has announced a hiatus from his YouTube channel following the recent ‘wine swapping’ controversy, sharing that he intends to “not lose his center.”
On May 13, the ‘Chef Ahn Sung-jae’ YouTube channel stated, “We intend to take some time to reorganize the channel for its overall direction, operation, and the production of careful content.” They added, “We will strive to return with a more responsible image and better content for those who have cherished and watched the channel.”
However, public sentiment remains cold as this announcement comes right after the ‘wine swapping’ controversy that erupted at his restaurant, Mosu.
Last month, a netizen who visited Mosu posted an exposé on an online community claiming they were victims of ‘wine swapping.’
As the controversy grew, Mosu apologized, stating, “Chef Ahn Sung-jae and the entire Mosu team are taking this matter very seriously. We will review all related services and promise to prevent a recurrence.”
When allegations surfaced that legitimate critical comments on his YouTube channel were being deleted, Chef Ahn issued a further statement. He apologized again, saying, “I sincerely apologize once more for the disappointment caused by the inadequate service at Mosu.” He also revealed, “The sommelier in question was required to submit a written explanation according to company regulations and has been removed from the sommelier position.”
Following the announcement of his “hiatus,” netizens reacted coldly, with comments such as “He should just say he’s reflecting on his actions” and “He’s still trying to win a power struggle.” These comments have gained significant traction, suggesting the controversy is far from over.
Meanwhile, on the afternoon of May 14, Chef Ahn wrote on his social media, “In this dizzying world, I am trying not to lose my center through gratitude. I am grateful to everyone who believes in my sincerity.”
Chef Ahn Sung-jae gained widespread popularity as a judge alongside Baek Jong-won in Seasons 1 and 2 of the Netflix survival show ‘Culinary Class Wars.’
