Actress Yu Hye-ri shared her affection for ‘Paris Emma’ and looked back on the surprising pay she earned during her peak days.
In the 739th episode of MBN’s close-up documentary program ‘Special World’ aired on May 14, Yu Hye-ri’s story of blaming herself for her mother’s deteriorating health was revealed.
Yu Hye-ri was once an ordinary college student who never dreamed of becoming an actress. However, in 1984, she was cast while visiting a company with many models with some acquaintances. After receiving a proposal saying, “If you’re interested in filming a CF, come to the set by a certain time,” she went with a bit of doubt and ended up filming a jeans commercial, which officially launched her career in the entertainment industry.
Due to her strict father, Yu Hye-ri even changed her name for her activities. She made her screen debut in the 1988 R-rated movie ‘Paris Emma,’ capturing the public’s attention with her bold acting and establishing herself as the top sexy star of the era.
Yu Hye-ri expressed pride in her work, saying, “The reaction was sensational. It was groundbreaking at the time. Since there weren’t many overseas locations back then, I received a lot of spotlight. Because I did it as an actress, I don’t think of it as shameful. After filming that movie, I started theater and was able to fully pivot toward a life as an actor.”
Using theater as a stepping stone, she appeared in the movie ‘Love of Umukbaemi’ and won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Grand Bell Awards. Yu Hye-ri bragged about her peak days, saying, “I received over 10 million won per movie. In the 1980s, house prices were between 12 million and 17 million won. Because of that, I was cast as the lead in a TV mini-series, which became a turning point.”
