BIGBANG’s Taeyang recently opened up about the moment he gave up his dreams of being a rapper.
On the 14th, a video titled “Former Colleague Gathering ft. Taeyang” was uploaded to Epik High’s YouTube channel, ‘EpicKase,’ featuring Taeyang as a special guest.

During the episode, Tablo asked, “Weren’t you originally a rapper? Honestly, how was your rapping?” Taeyang confessed, “Actually, I loved rapping back then. G-Dragon and I originally planned to debut as a rap duo.”
When Tablo asked why things changed, Taeyang recalled, “We thought we’d debut as a duo, but the company (YG) was envisioning a boy group. So, we were introduced to other friends who were auditioning.”

He shared, “T.O.P (Choi Seung-hyun) was a close friend of mine, and I introduced him to the company. That’s when Yang Hyun-suk auditioned him. T.O.P had always been a rapper, so I naturally thought he’d be asked to rap. But after seeing his face, [Yang Hyun-suk] said, ‘Hey, you’re handsome. Try singing,’ which cracked everyone up.”
Tablo laughed, saying, “I have no idea what the logic there is,” while Mithra Jin nearly choked on his beer from laughing so hard.

Taeyang remembered, “He came prepared to rap, but was told, ‘You’re handsome, try singing.’ He actually tried to sing, but since it was so sudden, it didn’t go very well. I was watching and unconsciously started singing along with him.”
Two Cut marveled, “That’s a fateful moment,” while Mithra asked, “Was it because you felt bad for him?”

Taeyang admitted, “He did struggle a bit,” leading Tablo to joke, “Weren’t you thinking, ‘I could do better than that’ internally?”
Taeyang explained, “I just ended up singing along. After hearing that, [Yang Hyun-suk] told me to practice singing, so I started from then.” He added that he had never actually practiced singing before that moment.
