Yang Sang-guk has finally spoken out regarding the controversy surrounding his attitude.
On May 15, the KBS 2TV variety show ‘Problem Child in House’ released a pre-clip on its official website titled ‘Gyeongsang-do Siblings’ Adaptation to a Seoul Rooftop Room.’
Singer BIBI and comedian Yang Sang-guk appeared as guests in the episode, where Yang Sang-guk caught everyone’s eye as the “icon of a country bumpkin.”
When asked about his current popularity, Yang Sang-guk shared a funny story, saying, “People call out ‘Hey, Yang Sang-guk!’ even when I’m just driving past in my car.”
He also addressed the recent backlash. Yang Sang-guk explained, “Actually, I’m very introverted, so I overdid it on the show.” He clarified that his eagerness for more screen time caused him to say things that didn’t reflect his true thoughts.
He even reenacted his controversial comment, saying, “Gyeongsang-do men don’t walk women home like people in Seoul do.” However, he then shouted his actual stance, “How can a woman go home alone? I should be the one walking her home!” leaving everyone in stitches. A caption on the screen read, ‘Our Sang-guk has changed.’
Previously, Yang Sang-guk sparked controversy on Yoo Jae-suk’s YouTube channel ‘Pinggyego’ after claiming he had never walked his girlfriend home because it was “annoying.” When senior Yoo Jae-suk suggested that walking a partner home is a nice gesture, Yang retorted, “That’s just your view on dating, Mr. Yoo Jae-suk,” and added, “I’ll scold you if you mention it one more time.” Furthermore, the controversy grew after he made rude remarks toward Kim Dong-hyun on the tvN show ‘Amazing Saturday.’
Fans are now curious to see if Yang Sang-guk can turn the tide of negative public opinion after explaining that he was simply overacting for the camera. The episode airs on May 21.
