DinDin’s First Love Ended by a Volcano? “I Cried Until I Almost Fainted!”

DinDin's First Love Ended by a Volcano?

DinDin is taking a trip down memory lane, recalling his first love, Katarina.

On May 15, a video titled “DinDin cries talking about Canadian ex-girlfriend | [Vancouver Project] Canada Ep.01” was uploaded to his YouTube channel, ‘DinDin is DinDin’.

DinDin visited Canada, where he once studied with his older sister. Talking about his first love Katarina, he shared, “Katarina moved from Canada to Germany. I even planned to attend university in Germany because of her. I was going to visit her in Germany for three weeks during spring break and look into colleges…”

His sister recalled the chaos: “He went there so excited. But an hour or two later, the door opened and he walked in dragging his luggage. Apparently, a volcano erupted in Iceland, and they didn’t know when the roads would open again. He cried that day like he had lost the whole world. He even got in the bathtub and cried like he was filming a drama. He was so into it, crying like a lead actor while listening to the ‘Don’t Forget’ OST.”

DinDin added, “I called Katarina, and she cried too because she knew she couldn’t go. I cried so much. I kept crying on the bus home. I was sobbing so hard that people actually avoided me. I cried until I almost fainted.”

He continued, “Then my dad told me not to wait and just come back to Korea. I suddenly felt impulsive and headed back to Korea immediately. Katarina was really disappointed.” His sister explained, “That’s how their relationship soured and they broke up.”

Later, DinDin and his sister visited Kitsilano Beach. Recalling his time dating Katarina there, DinDin shared, “Katarina contacted me later. She told me that after dating a few other guys, she realized there was no one like me.” His sister added, “When they met in Korea, she told me the same thing. She said he was probably the kindest person she’s ever met in her life.”

DinDin got emotional again, saying, “I’m tearing up again. I cried so much here after letting Katarina go. I think she was my first love. She’s the first person I truly loved.” He added, “Right after the Icelandic volcano erupted, I thought that once I became a successful rapper, I’d make a biographical movie about our love story. It’s just too dramatic. Meeting a Korean-German girl at a school with no other Koreans, getting caught by my dad, her returning to Germany, and then a volcano erupting on the day I tried to go to Germany. It’s a total drama!”

However, he clarified, “If she asked to meet now, I wouldn’t.” He noted, “Katarina and I still keep in touch. Her grandmother lives in Korea, so she visits every one or two years. When she does, we have a meal, or if she can’t meet me, she meets my sister and greets my mother.” His sister added, “Since they met when they were so young, it feels more like they’re cousins now.”
