‘Gunche’ is a film about survivors trapped in a locked building during a mysterious infection outbreak, fighting for survival against infected beings that evolve in unpredictable ways. It was invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

Director Yeon Sang-ho has been invited to Cannes for the fourth time this year. He previously appeared at the 65th Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight with ‘The King of Pigs’ (2012), the 69th Cannes Film Festival’s Midnight Screening with ‘Train to Busan’ (2016), and was selected for the ‘Cannes 2020 Label’ with ‘Peninsula’ in 2020. With ‘Gunche’, he returns to the festival after about 10 years.

‘Gunche’ also marks the big-screen return of top star Jun Ji-hyun, who is returning to cinema for the first time in 11 years since ‘Assassination’ (2015). The film also stars Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo.

Meanwhile, the official world premiere screening of ‘Gunche’ in the Midnight Screening section took place on the 16th at 0:30 AM (7:30 AM KST) at the Grand Théâtre Lumière of the Palais des Festivals. ‘Gunche’ is scheduled to be released in theaters in Korea on the 21st.
