Hwanhee’s mother set off on her very first trip to Jeju Island.
In the May 16 broadcast of KBS 2TV’s ‘Mr. House Husband’ Season 2 (hereafter ‘Mr. House Husband 2’), the journey of Hwanhee and his mother was revealed.
Hwanhee shared the historic first trip with his mom. His mother’s reaction to the airport for the first time in her life added a heartwarming touch. Holding a paper ticket, she excitedly said, “Is this all I need to board the plane? I’m keeping this ticket.”
When asked how she felt about her first Jeju trip, she replied, “I’m a bit nervous. I was so excited while preparing yesterday. I feel like I might cry. I’m 74, and this is my first trip.” She then told her son, “Don’t you dare cry following me,” catching everyone’s attention.
Hwanhee joked, “Mom, you can’t wear shoes on the plane.” Believing him, she practiced taking off her shoes, adding a cute charm. As boarding time approached, she actually took off her shoes and held them in her hands, confusing the flight attendants. Only after seeing other passengers did she realize, “No one else took theirs off!” She admitted, “I was so embarrassed because I made it obvious it was my first time.” She then scolded Hwanhee, “You brat! How dare you tease your mother?” Hwanhee just laughed, finding her adorable.
As the plane took off, she clasped her hands tightly, saying, “I’m nervous because we’re going up into the sky.” While empathizing, Hwanhee pranked her again, saying, “I heard that if people bow their heads during takeoff, it saves fuel.” Believing him once more, she bowed her head deeply. When Hwanhee didn’t do it, she asked, “You should bow! When do I stand up?” Realizing he was laughing, she burst out, “You dummy! Keep teasing me just because it’s my first time!”
However, her anger was short-lived. Seeing the sky for the first time, she became excited like a child, exclaiming, “Clouds! Look at the clouds!” She happily noted, “I get to ride a plane thanks to my son.”
She also mentioned that Hwanhee’s sister-in-law felt sorry after watching the show. “She said she cried after seeing the broadcast and told me, ‘Mother, I’ll make sure to celebrate your birthday and take better care of you from now on,'” she shared. Hwanhee added, “My brother also told me to take Mom on trips. I was angry, wondering why it was only me, but we’ve settled that now.” Lee Yo-won commented, “It’s great if the siblings practice filial piety together.”
Upon arriving in Jeju, she searched for a handkerchief, asking, “Why am I tearing up so much?” Eun Ji-won remarked, “She probably spent her whole life wondering if she’d ever have the chance to fly.” In an interview, she said, “The moment I saw the sign for Jeju Airport, it felt like my heart was tearing. All the sorrow rushed back. I couldn’t believe I actually came to Jeju. The tears just came out on their own.” Hwanhee expressed his hope that this would be the start of her living a comfortable life after a lifetime of sacrifice and walking on eggshells.
However, Hwanhee’s mom got upset over the bright blue and red open-top rental car, adding some laughs. “It looks like something a delinquent would drive. I’m so annoyed that you chose such a weird color for a car that looks like a piece of junk,” she complained about Hwanhee’s choice.
But she was soon amazed by the ocean, which she was seeing for the first time in her life. Everyone was shocked to learn that she was seeing the sea for the first time in 74 years. She burst into tears once more, saying she was so happy she “wanted to dance.”
