Heartbreaking Update on the 'PUBG Couple': Wife Battles Terminal Stomach Cancer and Peritoneal Metastasis

The story of the ‘PUBG Couple’—a wife battling terminal stomach cancer and the husband staying by her side—is returning to the screen.

MBC’s ‘Oh Eun Young Report,’ airing Monday, May 18 at 9 PM, will feature a special called ‘Again, Love’ for Family Month. This two-part series is a 2026 version of the ‘Love’ series, created by the current affairs and culture department that previously produced the tear-jerking ‘Human Documentary Love.’ It aims to explore the essence of love through stories of families who refuse to let go of each other despite unexpected tragedies.

The stars of Part 1 are the ‘PUBG Couple,’ who previously went viral online. The husband had gained attention by recruiting gamers to intentionally let his terminally ill wife “kill” them in the game to fulfill her wish. This heartwarming event touched many gamers and was even featured in the news. The upcoming broadcast will reveal their story since then.

After five happy years of marriage, the couple received the shocking news of terminal stomach cancer. The husband shared the heartbreaking detail: “Seven months after the birth of our second child, my wife went to the emergency room with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with stomach cancer that had metastasized to the peritoneum. We were told 80% of her colon had necroticized and her organs had hardened like stone.” He noted there were no warning signs before the ER visit. Recalling the diagnosis, he said, “The doctor told us it was beyond human medical capability to treat. He said today or tomorrow could be her last.”

The husband confessed that after the gaming event, he decided not to sign the DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) form because his wife told him, “I want to live.” However, her condition continues to worsen. Enduring repeated surgeries and extreme pain, the wife has been relying on narcotic painkillers for three months and calmly shared her inner thoughts, saying, “It would be better to just be born again.”

Watching this, the husband turned away to wipe away his tears. During filming, the situation became critical when the wife had to undergo an emergency procedure. The husband wept, pleading, “Please hold on, stay strong.” Jang Dong-min and Moon Se-yoon were also moved to tears, and Dr. Oh Eun-young sobbed, saying, “Not every couple can do this. I pray with all my heart that a miracle happens.”

The story of the ‘PUBG Couple,’ who refuse to let go of each other even in moments of despair, will be revealed in Part 1 of MBC’s ‘Oh Eun Young Report – Again, Love’ on Monday, May 18 at 9 PM.
