Two figures from the KBS announcing world have passed away on the same day. Actress Kim Young-ok is mourning the loss of her husband, and singer Kim Kyung-ho is mourning the loss of his father.
On the 17th, a representative from Kim Young-ok’s agency, Management Yunsan, told Xports News, “Former KBS announcer Kim Young-gil passed away today (17th).” He was 89 years old.
He reportedly passed away after a long illness. He and Kim Young-ok were alumni of Chung-Ang University and first met in the university’s broadcasting room. The couple married in 1960 and had one son and two daughters.
Former announcer Kim Young-gil joined the KBS Chuncheon Broadcasting Station as a 5th-term announcer in 1959. He later served as the chief announcer and head of the broadcasting department at CBS and eventually retired from KBS.
On the same day, sad news arrived that singer Kim Kyung-ho’s father had passed away. According to Kim Kyung-ho’s agency, Production Lee Hwang, his father, former KBS announcer Kim Jung-bin, passed away on the 17th due to a long-term illness at the age of 86.
It is quite a coincidence that Kim Kyung-ho’s father was also a KBS announcer. Kim Kyung-ho had previously shared on a broadcast that his father was a KBS announcer and his mother was a CBS announcer.
The funeral for Kim Young-ok’s husband, former announcer Kim Young-gil, is being held at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 12. The funeral procession will take place on the 19th at 8 AM, and he will be laid to rest at Donghwa Gyeongmo Park.
The funeral for Kim Kyung-ho’s father, former announcer Kim Jung-bin, is being held at a funeral town in Seo-gu, Gwangju. The funeral procession will take place on the 19th at 7:30 AM, and he will be laid to rest at a family cemetery in Hwasun, Jeonnam.
