“Are You Broke These Days?” Gang Dong Won Laughs Over Friend’s Reaction to His Shocking Dance Transformation in ‘Wild Thing’

We met actor Gang Dong Won, who has undergone an epic transformation in the movie ‘Wild Thing’, performing breakdancing for the first time in his career and showcasing headspins that bring back memories of Shinhwa and HOT.

In ‘Wild Thing’, Gang Dong Won plays ‘Hyun Woo’, the leader and “dance machine” of the three-member co-ed dance group ‘Triangle’. He portrays a legendary idol who hit number one on a terrestrial music program just one year after debut, specializing in infinite windmills and headspins.

From the moment the trailer was released, the transformation was so shocking that fans commented, “Gang Dong Won is working this hard, we should all reflect on ourselves” and “I can’t even imagine how much he wants to succeed.”

Regarding these reactions, Gang Dong Won shared a funny story, saying, “I saw the public’s response. It feels like the power of collective intelligence is evolving. It was fun to see everyone reacting as if they were placing bets. A hyung from Gyeongsang-do even contacted me and asked, ‘Are you broke these days?'”

Gang Dong Won highlighted the charm of ‘Wild Thing’, stating, “The comic nature of the script was the draw, and the fact that I’m performing on stage is the comic point. I thought it would be funny if I did headspins. The production team and director didn’t think I would actually do it. This movie is a high comedy. My goal was to be ‘king-bad’ by dancing too well when everyone expected me to be bad. I wanted the reaction to be, ‘I thought he’d be clumsy, but he’s actually good, which makes it funny.’ I practiced a lot for that.”

“I really wanted to make people feel absurd,” Gang Dong Won added. “Absurd situations unfold from the start of the movie. As it progresses, incidents keep popping up and growing like a snowball, turning into something like a road movie. I wanted to annoy people by being strangely fitting and strangely good at it,” showing confidence that the movie was made according to his goals.
