KBS is launching a brand new project this year called “K-Gagok Superstar Korea”!
The previous “K-Gagok Superstar” was a huge hit, featuring foreign vocalists singing Korean art songs (Gagok) in Korean. It received rave reviews for showcasing the potential of a new genre and proving that Korean art songs can go global.
Building on that excitement, “K-Gagok Superstar Korea” is a competition for Korean citizens aimed at popularizing Korean art songs and discovering the next generation of K-Gagok stars.
The competition drew attention with a diverse range of applicants, from students and office workers to seniors. A total of 654 people applied, including a 94-year-old participant, making it a true “national project” that spans all generations.
After intense competition through first-round video auditions and second-round on-site auditions, the top 10 finalists have been selected. They will now battle it out for the grand prize of 50 million won!
The legendary national tenor Eom Jeong-haeng will serve as the head judge. Eom Jeong-haeng shared the significance of the genre, stating, “Korean art songs are music that contains our emotions and lives.”
National actress Chae Shi-ra and KBS announcer Lim Ji-woong will lead the show as MCs, bringing warmth and depth to the program. Tune in on May 24th at 5:10 PM on KBS 1TV for a special 110-minute broadcast.
