The cast of ‘Chief Kim’, including So Ji-sub, Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Joo Sang-wook, Son Na-eun, and Kim Sung-kyu, recently shared a glimpse into their script reading session!
Set to premiere on June 26, the new SBS Friday-Saturday drama ‘Chief Kim’ (written by Nam Dae-jung, directed by Lee Seung-young and Lee So-eun, planned and produced by Studio S and Fantagio) is a “father universe” revenge action series. It follows the story of the “most ordinary” dad who transforms into the “most dangerous” man in the world to rescue his only daughter.
‘Chief Kim’ is adapted from the Naver webtoon of the same name and is already drawing huge attention. The series features writer Nam Dae-jung, known for his strong storytelling in ‘Great Wish’, ’30 Days’, and ‘First Ride’, alongside director Lee Seung-young, who proved his skills in ‘Wonderful World’, ‘Tracer’, and ‘Voice 2’, and director Lee So-eun, who adds a fresh perspective to the production.
Director Lee Seung-young, leading the project, boosted the energy of the room with a confident declaration: “I will do my best to ensure that by the time the program ends, everyone feels it was a joyful and truly amazing experience.”
So Ji-sub takes on the role of Chief Kim, the father of Min-ji. While he works as an ordinary employee at a small savings bank, he is actually a former North-South operative. So Ji-sub impressed everyone at the reading with his multi-dimensional acting, blending the tenderness of a doting father with chilling charisma.
Choi Dae-hoon plays Seong Han-soo, a Taekwondo gold medalist who now teaches children at a dojang and is the father of Tae-hoon. He delivered a performance that balanced comedy and gravity, showing sharp chemistry with So Ji-sub and hilarious sparks with Yoon Kyung-ho.
Yoon Kyung-ho stepped into the shoes of Park Jin-chul, a former “god of the battlefield” who now takes the most pride in being Da-bin’s dad. He brought the character to life with realistic emotions, from the sadness of seeing his daughter grow up to playful bickering with Seong Han-soo (Choi Dae-hoon).
Joo Sang-wook plays the antagonist, Joo Kang-chan, the chairman of Ju-hak Construction who solves everything with money and violence. His intense presence froze the air in the room as he stood in direct opposition to Chief Kim (So Ji-sub).
Son Na-eun plays Sang-ah, a colleague of Chief Kim who hides a secret. She showcased a wide range of charms, from the bubbly energy of an MZ-generation office worker to a mysterious aura that leaves viewers curious.
Kim Sung-kyu plays Kang Seong, an agent dispatched from North Korea on a secret mission. He fully immersed himself in the role, using his distinctive deep voice and sharp expressions to create a captivating presence.
