Actor Park Hae-soo shared a variety of stories, from the behind-the-scenes of his participation in the OST for the drama Heosuabi to his acting chemistry with actor Jung Moon-sung.
On the 18th, Park Hae-soo met with MyDaily at the BH Entertainment building in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to talk about the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama Heosuabi.
Heosuabi tells the story of a detective chasing the real culprit of a serial murder case who forms an unexpected partnership with the person he hates most. Spanning 30 years from 1988 to 2019, the drama received praise from viewers for its heavy atmosphere and the pursuit of truth between two men amidst a long history of ill fate and hatred.
Regarding his participation in the OST, Park Hae-soo laughed, saying, “I told them I didn’t know why they offered it to me when there are so many actors who are great singers.”
However, he revealed that he eventually decided to participate after deeply empathizing with the lyrics that captured the wounds and anxiety of youth. He explained, “After finishing all the filming, I sang while continuing to imagine the character’s past,” adding, “I tried to express it as simply and cleanly as possible.”
He then talked about his acting chemistry with Jung Moon-sung. Park Hae-soo said, “I got goosebumps watching Moon-sung hyung’s acting from the very beginning.”
Recalling the tension of trying not to reveal his emotions easily despite knowing they were friends in the story, he said, “I could constantly feel a gaze asking when I would treat him like a real friend.”
Regarding the process of acting while knowing the culprit’s identity, he confessed, “I tried to hide the sense of betrayal felt toward a friend rather than anger.”
He further explained the character’s complex emotional line, saying, “The emotion that the person I was chasing was actually a friend I didn’t know about was important.”
Park Hae-soo emphasized that the emotional power of the work is also a great charm of Heosuabi. He noted that the scene where Jung Moon-sung’s identity is revealed remained an intense moment even among the actors.
He shared the reaction on set, saying, “All the actors watched it together on a big screen, and we all jumped up at once.”
He praised the scene, saying, “It came out off-beat. I got so many goosebumps that I screamed.” He added, “The editing was done many times, and instead of idolizing the moment or showing it as ‘Did you expect this?’, it was released simply like handing out flyers, which was very impressive.”
He also expressed his love for TV dramas. Park Hae-soo said, “The biggest advantage of TV dramas is that everyone, including parents, relatives, and grandmothers, can watch them together.”
He stated, “I’ve gone from being the ‘Son of Netflix’ to a civil servant,” and added, “If there’s a project, a director, or a work I want to challenge myself with, I will take on TV dramas again.”
