Singer DinDin recently opened up about a time in his 20s when his mother “audited” his bank statements.
On May 8, a video titled “Parents’ Day Special, Telling the Story of Getting Caught at a Motel by Mom” was uploaded to the channel ‘DinDin is DinDin’. In the video, DinDin treated his mother and second older sister to a meal.
DinDin sparked laughter by reading out the spending history of his mother, who uses his card. When his mother suggested turning off the notifications since she doesn’t spend money on useless things, DinDin shot back, “Didn’t you ask me ‘Who did you go to the motel with?’ when I used your card?” leaving her completely speechless.
Recalling the incident, DinDin said, “I was about 23. I had started making money and thought I should manage my own finances. But one day I came home and found my bankbook open in my room with all my transaction history printed out.” He added, “I felt something was wrong, and then my mom started grilling me, asking, ‘What is this motel thing?'”
DinDin confessed that he couldn’t understand why his mother checked the spending history of money he had earned himself. His mother explained, “We are from the generation that uses physical bankbooks, and I didn’t realize his generation does everything on their phones. I thought DinDin was too busy to update his bankbook, so I did it for him, and I saw many hotel and motel entries. I definitely didn’t look on purpose.”
DinDin admitted, “I thought my mom was censoring me. I almost cut ties with her,” which left viewers surprised. He further revealed that the motel entries were frequent at the time, explaining that they were actually for accommodations during regional events, but he simply didn’t want his privacy exposed to his mother.
DinDin first rose to fame in 2013 through Mnet’s rap survival show ‘Show Me The Money 2’. He later gained attention as a singer for his precise diction in ‘Must Be The Money’, an OST for the KBS2 drama ‘Good Manager’. Recently, he has been receiving lots of love for his honest charm and witty talk on KBS ‘2 Days & 1 Night Season 4’ and his own personal channel.
