Director Park Chan-wook has taken home the Best Picture award!
The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards took place on the 8th at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The ceremony was hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Park Bo-gum, and Suzy, and was broadcast live on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4, as well as streamed online via Chzzk.
The nominees for Best Picture in the film category included ‘3rd Grade 2nd Semester’, ‘Good News’, ‘Master of the World’, ‘I Can’t Help It’, and ‘The Man Living with the King’.
Beating out the strong competition, the film ‘I Can’t Help It’ claimed the Best Picture trophy. Director Park Chan-wook joked, “Looking at the results, I’m confident that the judging was fair. Yeom Hye-ran might not agree, but please understand!”
He continued with his signature wit, “I’m making silly jokes in such an honorable place, but this film was a work full of jokes. I believe it’s important to try and find humor, or even make self-deprecating jokes, when you’re feeling angry or sad. I think that’s how we find an exit from the energy of anger and sadness. Although I’m a director who didn’t win at the Venice Film Festival or the Academy Awards, please believe me since I’m the one receiving the honorable Baeksang Best Picture award.”
