SBS’s ‘Monk and Guest’, premiering on the 19th, is an “immediate questions and answers” road trip where “national mentor” Venerable Beopryun and various guests embark on a journey to find their “true selves.”
This marks Venerable Beopryun’s first appearance in a road variety show, and it is generating high expectations as it will reveal parts of his 34-year pilgrimage to India for the first time on a variety program.
The second teaser showcases the eventful journey of guests Noh Hong-chul, Lee Sang-yoon, Lee Ju-bin, Lee Ki-taek, and Allday Project Woochan, along with vivid scenes of their secret and honest “immediate questions and answers” sessions with the monk.
As Noh Hong-chul asks, “Is this a trip or training?” the show captures both the laughter and relaxation found in the wonders of India’s 1.4 billion population, as well as the cast’s bewildered expressions during grueling training, such as climbing steep mountain paths.
Curiosity about the journey grows as Noh Hong-chul is captured falling fast asleep in the car.
The “immediate questions and answers” between Venerable Beopryun and the guests also leave a strong impression. When Lee Ju-bin shares her worries, Venerable Beopryun bluntly states, “That is an obsession,” and when Lee Sang-yoon mentions that “knowledge is power,” the monk flips the common saying, replying, “Knowing is a disease.”
Additionally, he firmly tells Allday Project Woochan, who says he is “very interested in cars,” that “it is not interest, it is an obsession.” He also brings laughter by asking a bewildered “Why are you asking me that?” to Noh Hong-chul, who seeks advice on whether to cash out or wait on his stock and coin investments.
Despite being a short teaser, the program’s unique charm is clear, blending travel, spiritual training, and direct, unfiltered answers to realistic questions.
Online communities and social media are buzzing with reactions, such as “I am looking forward to Venerable Beopryun’s wise fact-attacks” and “I cannot believe Venerable Beopryun is appearing on this style of variety show! I am so curious.”
SBS’s ‘Beopryun Road – Monk and Guest’, which promises a new format combining the joy of travel, the depth of training, and the refreshing answers of “immediate questions and answers,” will premiere on the 19th at 9 PM.
