8 Members, 8 Different Vibes! Get Ready to Fall for YUHZ [Interview]

Your boys are coming for you! Eight boys are extending an invitation, armed with their own unique refreshing charms and rookie passion. This is YUHZ, the group finally selected through SBS “B: MY BOYZ.” Led by Hyo, the members Bohyun, Sechan, Kai, Yeontae, Jaeil, Junseong, and Haruto are reaching out with their fresh new song “Rush rush.”

“After the eight of us were selected, we spent over six months preparing because we were so desperate to debut,” Bohyun shared. “Appearing on music shows makes me happy and excited, but it also strengthens my desire to prove the time I spent working hard and enduring for this dream.”

“Since we gathered through a survival program, the eight of us have eight different personalities,” Junseong added. “While our overall concept is ‘refreshing,’ the fact that each member can show a different kind of refreshing charm is YUHZ’s strength. As rookies, we’ll show a bold side, charging forward without hesitation.”

YUHZ met at the Sports Kyunghyang office on the 11th, where they candidly discussed everything from their confidence in the title track “Rush rush” from their debut single “Orange record,” to their role models and the goals they hope to achieve.

■ “From Survival to Solid Teamwork: We can feel our bond growing stronger”

YUHZ is a boy group consisting of eight elite members selected from “B: MY BOYZ.” They shared that experiencing the strange transition from competing against each other to suddenly becoming one team has taught them a lot about teamwork.

“During ‘B: MY BOYZ,’ we barely had any chance to bond,” Hyo explained. “So when we gathered as a team, we had a lot of discussions about how to coordinate our different personalities and how to set the direction for the album. After working together for six months, the best part is that no one has to walk on eggshells anymore; everyone speaks their mind honestly and actively. Because we’re honest with each other, it’s actually become easier for me as the leader to coordinate opinions. I believe that’s what teamwork is.”

When the group decided to push forward with a refreshing charm for “Rush rush,” the maknae Sechan was the most anticipated.

“During the survival show, Sechan was the youngest, but we wanted him to show a manly and strong image,” Bohyun noted. “However, while preparing this album with a refreshing concept, we were excited that we could show Sechan’s hidden cute charm. In reality, he pulled it off the best.”

“When I first heard the title track, I thought, ‘Ah, with this, I can let go of my masculinity and show my fresh side,'” Sechan said. “I guess you could say I gained confidence.”

“I also think a refreshing stage suits a group best when they are rookies,” Jaeil added. “That’s why I believe this is a concept that only we can pull off right now.”

“You’ll also be able to feel YUHZ’s unique energy on stage,” Kai mentioned. “It’s hard to find boy groups pushing a refreshing concept these days, so I believe our charm and powerful choreography will definitely set us apart. We’ve prepared hard, so we’ll really stand out.”

■ BTS, NCT Wish, TWS… “We’ll learn that effortless poise from our seniors”

Having just made their debut, everything is sparkling and new for them. In particular, they find themselves greatly inspired by the senior artists they meet while promoting on music shows.

“I met the seniors from Cravity at a music show,” Bohyun recalled. “Like us, they are a large group, but their synchronized dance power and stage presence were so immense that I was instantly focused just by watching them. I think they are seniors who serve as great motivation and role models.”

“During the final 1st place announcement on a music show, all the performers stand on stage. Since I’m a rookie, I thought I should stay in the back, but Seung-han from SeungHan&Soul told me, ‘Why are you going to the back? You can stand in front of me,’ and gave me his spot. I’ll never forget how kindly he cheered me on.”

When asked to name their role models, a diverse range of musicians were mentioned: BTS (Yeontae, Jaeil), NCT Wish (Bohyun, Kai), Cortis (Hyo), SEVENTEEN (Junseong), TWS (Haruto), and Charlie Puth (Sechan). Their desire to emulate the energy, poise, and skill of these global top artists was evident.

“Maybe that’s why, as a member of YUHZ, I want to grow into a group that can give good energy and comfort to many people worldwide, just like BTS,” Bohyun expressed.

“Me too,” Yeontae added. “I also want to achieve great chart results and win 1st place on music shows like our seniors. I hope that when people hear the name ‘YUHZ,’ they’ll think, ‘Ah, YUHZ is really good.'”

“I don’t necessarily want just one song to blow up,” Sechan shared. “Rather, I want to be a singer with public appeal whose future releases are consistently loved. If I have an ambition, it’s to have a massive fandom through incredibly high-quality songs. Haha.”

YUHZ’s “Orange record” is available on all online music sites nationwide.
