Opening on June 3, “Wild Thing” tells the story of Triangle, a three-member co-ed dance group that once dominated the music scene before a sudden incident led to their disbandment. The heart of the movie is their reckless and desperate attempt to seize a second chance at fame after 20 long years.
Director Son Jae-gon, who has previously proven his quirky settings and ironic sense of humor through films like “The Villainess on the Second Floor” and “Don’t Worry,” plans to showcase the essence of “Son Jae-gon style” comedy with unique characters and an unpredictable plot.
The production lineup is equally impressive. Led by About Film, the production company behind the all-time top comedy hit “Extreme Job,” the team includes makeup director Cho Tae-hee from “Moving” and costume director Kim Jung-won from “Pilot.” They perfectly recreate the Y2K aesthetic to trigger nostalgia and increase immersion. Additionally, music director Lee Jin-hee from “Kill Boksoon” added a touch of modern sophistication to the nostalgic soundtrack.
Notably, the film’s authenticity is boosted by the participation of actual K-pop experts. Composer Shim Eun-ji, who has worked with top artists like IU and TWICE, along with producers from JYP Entertainment, participated in creating Triangle’s song “Love is” to bring real-world music industry vibes. On top of that, Nana Company, known for their work with SSAK3, handled the choreography, delivering flashy performances ranging from old-school breaking to the latest idol styles.
Meanwhile, “Wild Thing” is generating an explosive response from potential viewers by releasing digital singles and music videos, and even operating real SNS accounts for the fictional group Triangle. The group’s name has even been listed on Namuwiki, drawing significant attention.
