Actress Shin Ye-eun has transformed into a bold and sweet nurse!
ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Doctor Island Boy’ (written by Kim Ji-soo, directed by Lee Myung-woo) released the first still cuts of Shin Ye-eun on the 12th. Shin Ye-eun is set to showcase a wide range of charms, from lovely energy to hidden secrets.
‘Doctor Island Boy’ is a medical human romance. It follows the story of Do Ji (played by Lee Jae-wook), a public health doctor who arrives at the notorious island ‘Pyundong-do’ that everyone avoids, and Yuk Ha-ri (played by Shin Ye-eun), a nurse with many secrets.
The drama is based on the popular KakaoPage webtoon ‘Jonber Doctor’ (by writer Kim Tae-pung). It is directed by PD Lee Myung-woo, known for ‘Boyhood’ and ‘The Fiery Priest,’ who will bring his signature rhythmic direction and sense of humor to the series.
Lee Jae-wook and Shin Ye-eun will play the ‘Island Man and Island Woman’ duo. The newly released stills capture Shin Ye-eun’s sunny smile, showing her as a natural-born nurse who stays by her patients’ sides with kindness and care.
Yuk Ha-ri is a sweet ‘busybody’ who can’t ignore anyone in need. However, she also has an unexpected bold side, such as keeping a close eye on someone while holding a bottle of alcohol in broad daylight.
A different side of her was also captured, showing a worried and serious expression. This leaves fans curious about the secret behind why Yuk Ha-ri suddenly left a university hospital to return to her hometown.
Shin Ye-eun shared her reason for joining the project, saying, “The concept of a public health doctor was special. Also, all the residents of Pyundong-do village were charming and multi-dimensional. I felt that the episodes featuring their laughter and the process of healing each other would resonate with many people.”
Regarding her character, she described her as “a person who is soft yet strong and full of love, to the point where she might seem like a busybody.” She added, “I wanted to blend my own traits with Ha-ri’s charms to create a character that viewers will love.”
She also revealed her focus on the role: “Ha-ri is a character who needs to show various emotions in a short amount of time or experience significant emotional shifts. I focused on expressing those emotions harmoniously and staying true to Ha-ri’s emotional arc.”
To portray the professional skills of a nurse, she put in extra effort. “I tried to get closer to the profession by seeking expert advice, asking questions, and studying related videos and real-life experiences,” she added.
Meanwhile, ‘Doctor Island Boy’ premieres next month on the 1st at 10 PM on ENA. It will also be available on KT Genie TV and Disney+.
