Lee Woo-jung shared his heartfelt desire to become a famous singer rather than remaining unknown.
The May 13 episode of KBS 1TV’s ‘AM Plaza’ featured the “Challenge! Dream Stage” segment.
During the preliminary round, Lee Woo-jung opened up, saying, “I want to gift my father the title of being the father of a famous singer, not an unknown one.”
He revealed, “My father was a singer when I was young. I can still remember him wearing those sparkly stage outfits. However, my parents divorced, and my father raised the three of us on his own. He had to give up his path as a singer to make sure his children could survive.”
Lee added, “My father took any job he could find, from karaoke rooms and chicken shops to live cafes. He would leave for work at dawn and return home at dawn. He worked tirelessly without a single day off, yet our family still struggled. He always told me he was sorry for not being able to raise me in abundance.”
He continued, “Sometimes I went to the karaoke room to help him, and I saw him bowing repeatedly to drunk customers who were acting out. It broke my heart and I felt so sorry to see him suffer like that just to raise us. Although he stopped his singing activities, the passion for music always remained in his heart. I sincerely hoped his dream would come true.”
For his performance, he chose the song ‘Wish’ by Noh Sa-yeon. Lee explained, “As time passed and his children grew up, my father’s dream finally came true. He released the album he had wanted so badly, and for the first time, I saw him look truly happy. But like many unknown singers, there were no stages for him to perform on, which left him feeling frustrated and upset.”
Tearing up after his performance, Lee Woo-jung said, “It hurt so much to see my father lose his dreams after spending his youth raising us. That is why I stood on this stage, to fulfill the dream he couldn’t achieve. I will sing my heart out for both my father’s and my own dreams.”
