WOODZ is the King of the Long Run! 'Drowning' Sets Historic Record on Charts

Singer WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn) is setting a new milestone in domestic music history as his self-composed track ‘Drowning’ continues its incredible “long run” on the charts.

According to music industry sources on the 15th, WOODZ’s ‘Drowning’ recently achieved a record of staying in the TOP 10 of the Melon TOP100 chart for 70 consecutive weeks. This is the longest period any song has maintained a TOP 10 position since the chart began. Notably, it has far surpassed previous records set by mega-hits such as NewJeans’ ‘Hype Boy’ (49 weeks) and BTS’ ‘Dynamite’ (36 weeks).

This success is the result of a “reverse run” fever that ignited in October 2024 and has remained strong until now. ‘Drowning’ topped the 2025 annual charts compiled by Melon, Genie, and Circle Chart, and even snagged two first-place trophies on SBS ‘Inkigayo’.

The momentum of his video content also remains powerful. As of the 14th, the live clip released in 2023 is holding the #3 spot on the YouTube Korea Popular Music Video TOP 100, marking an impressive 81 consecutive weeks on the chart. Additionally, a singing video from the Armed Forces Day special, where he performed in military uniform, has surpassed 30 million views, continuing to draw in listeners.

‘Drowning’ was written and composed by WOODZ himself and gained massive word-of-mouth among listeners from the moment of its release. Some analyze that the song’s narrative, which expresses the pain of a breakup through delicate emotions and an explosive rock sound, perfectly hit the public’s taste.

After confirming his global presence with the release of his first full-length album ‘Archive. 1’ and a world tour, WOODZ has now participated in ‘EVERGLOW’, the sixth OST for the drama ’21st Century Great Prince’s Wife’.

The new OST ‘EVERGLOW’ heightens the immersion of the drama as the narrative between Seong Hee-ju (played by IU) and Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo-seok) deepens. Starting with a calm piano melody and expanding into a grand band sound, the song’s structure meets WOODZ’s signature dramatic vocals to create an atmosphere that is both sorrowful and hopeful.
