Yang Sang-guk’s ‘Screen Time Greed’ Crosses the Line: Is a Simple Apology Enough?

Comedian Yang Sang-guk, who recently found himself at the center of an “attitude controversy,” has finally hit rock bottom—literally, by kneeling.

After facing severe backlash from viewers for rude behavior fueled by a desperate desire for screen time, he seems to be making a belated “formal apology” through a variety show teaser.

On the 15th, KBS2’s ‘Problem Child in House’ released a teaser featuring Yang Sang-guk and BIBI on their official channel. This is the same video that was briefly uploaded due to a staff error before being deleted at lightning speed.

The controversy didn’t end there. On tvN’s ‘Amazing Saturday,’ he left viewers cringing with his high-handed attitude toward junior Kim Hae-jun, using gestures that looked like kicking and hitting during a skit.

Many feel this went beyond just playing a “character” and was instead a violent portrayal that deceived the audience.

In the teaser, when Joo Woo-jae pointed out that he has “high buzz but also high controversy,” Yang Sang-guk explained, “I’m actually very introverted, but I acted exaggeratedly because I was greedy for screen time.”

He even reversed his past claim that “men from Gyeongsang-do don’t walk women home,” shouting, “How can a woman go home alone? I have to walk her home!” while kneeling.

However, it’s unclear if this “emotional explanation” will feel sincere to the public. Since he only knelt after the criticism intensified, some see it as just another “show” for the cameras.

Yang Sang-guk has entered “intense” risk management, replying to individual apology comments on social media. Still, the image of a “rude senior” and “violent entertainer” isn’t easily erased.

In an era where tension should be built naturally, attacking others just for screen time is an outdated variety show trope.

All eyes are now on the full episode of ‘Problem Child in House’ airing on the 21st to see if his “reflection” is just a performance to save face or a genuine change of heart.
