Jun Ji-hyun radiated elegance under the Cannes sun! The team behind the movie ‘Gunche’ kicked off their official schedule by attending the photocall for the 79th Cannes International Film Festival on the 15th (local time).
This official photocall took place ahead of the red carpet and world premiere scheduled for after midnight. Director Yeon Sang-ho and actors Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, and Kim Shin-rok were all present, drawing a flurry of flashes from the global press.

‘Gunche’ has been officially invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival. After meeting the global press at the photocall, the ‘Gunche’ team is set to light up the Cannes night with the red carpet and official screening. The world premiere will take place on the 16th at 0:30 AM local time (7:30 AM KST), with a red carpet event planned in front of the Lumiere Theatre.

Jun Ji-hyun stars as Kwon Se-jung, a biotechnologist leading the survivors. Koo Kyo-hwan plays Seo Young-chul, the genius biologist who caused the infection. Ji Chang-wook takes on the role of Choi Hyun-seok, who attempts to escape with his sister Hyun-hee (played by Kim Shin-rok), who uses a wheelchair due to a lower-body disability. Shin Hyun-bin plays Seol-hee, a biotechnologist tracking the cause of the infection.
Director Yeon Sang-ho, who returns to the zombie genre after ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘Peninsula’, introduces a fresh concept in this work: zombies that update via collective intelligence. These infected beings, who share information and constantly evolve, are expected to create a level of horror that differs from traditional zombie films.

There is also huge anticipation for Jun Ji-hyun’s return to the silver screen. This marks her first movie in 11 years since Director Choi Dong-hoon’s ‘Assassination’ (2015).

Thierry Frémont, the General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, previously praised ‘Train to Busan’ as “one of the best Midnight Screening works of all time” and lauded Yeon Sang-ho as a representative Korean director following in the footsteps of Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho.
After its first unveiling at Cannes, ‘Gunche’ will be released domestically on the 21st.
