Kim Shin-young Shares Her Life Philosophy After 24 Years in Broadcasting: “Self-Pity Only Makes You Pitiful”

Kim Shin-young Shares Her Life Philosophy After 24 Years in Broadcasting:

Kim Shin-young brought a wave of laughter to MBC’s ‘I Live Alone’! Even while battling laryngitis, she impressed everyone by sticking to her self-haircut and bathroom cleaning routines, and treating herself to a “sweet and salty” health food feast, proving her dedication to taking “responsibility for herself.”

The May 15th episode of MBC’s ‘I Live Alone’ gave fans a peek into Kim Shin-young’s “homebody routine” after she finishes her radio show.

After previously showing the gold standard of a homebody on her days off, Kim Shin-young caught attention by revealing her after-work habits. She admitted, “I’ve been in broadcasting for 24 years, but I still don’t know the station at all. I don’t know where things are, where the waiting rooms are, or where the studios are. I wondered, ‘Can I even say I’m a 24-year veteran?'” She also mentioned that she commutes by her own car.

Despite suffering from laryngitis for a month, Kim Shin-young didn’t waste a second upon arriving home. She started with a self-haircut, a habit she’s maintained for 10 years, and dove into cleaning the toilet, sink, shower booth, and bathtub. She surprised everyone by revealing her routine of cleaning the toilet every time she “does her business,” cleaning the entire bathroom two to three times a week.

To fight off the laryngitis, Kim Shin-young enjoyed a full-course “health meal.” The menu started with a bowl of sweet and sour mashed strawberries, followed by tteokbokki made with her favorite glass noodles, fish cakes, and rice cakes, paired with kimbap made from stir-fried anchovies. She topped it all off with ice cream mixed with crushed potato chips for the perfect “sweet and salty” combination. Sharing her food philosophy, she joked, “You have to eat when you’re sick. Real health food is whatever I love. I must have glass noodles at least once a day!” However, she showed impressive self-control by stopping as soon as her swollen nose made it hard to taste, stating, “You have to be firm and put it down,” before storing the rest in the fridge.

Kim Shin-young also shared a touching perspective on the “responsibility for oneself” when living alone. “It’s sad to be sick, but it’s sadder to be lazy,” she said. “If you’re full of self-pity, you just become a pitiful person. Who’s going to wash the socks? Sad Shin-young has to wash them. I have to return to reality. If I’m sick, I go to the hospital or get an IV. I endure it because I’m an adult. It’s not about acting my age, but acting a fool. I must live bravely on my own two feet. When sick, I must eat heartily.” Her honest words resonated deeply with viewers.
