The true face of a shameless criminal who committed a crime for money has been revealed.
The 8th episode of E Channel’s ‘Brave Detectives 5,’ which aired on the 15th, featured Inspector Kang Seung-wan of the Gangwon Goseong Police Station, former Senior Superintendent Yoon Oe-chul, and Officer Kim Jin-soo from the Scientific Investigation Team (KCSI).
The case introduced today was a long-term pursuit where the suspect was identified just one day after the missing person report, but it took two months to make the arrest. It all began when a father reported that his daughter, a 21-year-old jewelry store employee, had not returned home after work on Friday. Police discovered that cash withdrawals had been made from her account immediately after she disappeared.
CCTV footage showed a man wearing a hat and mask visiting several locations throughout the night, withdrawing a total of 4.1 million won across 14 transactions. However, during the final withdrawal, he slightly lowered his mask, exposing part of his nose and mouth, which allowed detectives to begin their investigation.
A coworker at the jewelry store recognized the man in the CCTV as another employee’s brother. The suspect was a 28-year-old man whose resident registration photo matched the nose and mouth seen in the footage, and the final withdrawal location was near his hometown. The investigation team then found that the victim and the suspect had been at a pub together on Friday night before moving to a motel. CCTV captured the woman appearing to be dragged by force, followed by the suspect carrying someone and loading them into a car trunk.
Detectives spotted a suspicious bulge in a cornfield behind the suspect’s childhood home. After conducting stakeouts near the homes of his parents and sister, they successfully arrested the suspect near his sister’s house 57 days after the initial report. A search of the cornfield revealed the victim’s body buried in the center.
The body was found curled up inside a sack, wearing the same clothes she had on when she disappeared. The criminal claimed they were lovers and that the crime happened after an argument, but there was no clear evidence to support this. Yoon Do-joon and Kwak Sun-young expressed their outrage at his shameless claims. The perpetrator was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
