Shin Dong-yup revealed a special connection from 40 years ago with singer Han Young-ae.
The upcoming episode of KBS 2TV’s ‘Immortal Songs’ airing on the 16th will be the ‘Artist Han Young-ae Special,’ celebrating her 50th debut anniversary. To mark this special occasion, Sohyang, Jung In, Jung Dong-ha, Go Hoon-jung X Lee Chang-yong, Seodo Band, and Do Won-kyung will perform.
During a recent recording, MC Shin Dong-yup told Han Young-ae, “I owe you a great debt,” as he shared an anecdote from when he was a high school sophomore in 1987.
Shin Dong-yup recalled, “Back when I was in the high school broadcasting club, I went to recruit Jeon In-kwon for our school festival. Han Young-ae, who was with him at the time, stepped forward and said, ‘I’ll do it too.'” He expressed his gratitude, adding, “She performed at a high school festival for free. I’ll never forget this favor for the rest of my life.” Shin Dong-yup then bowed deeply to Han Young-ae, drawing applause from the crowd.
Responding with a smile, Han Young-ae said, “I remember that time too.” She jokingly expressed her regret, saying, “I still want to go and sing at high school festivals, but they don’t invite me anymore.”
Shin Dong-yup made her burst into laughter by joking, “I think even the school principals might find that a bit difficult.” After the joke, he added once more, “It was an unforgettable autumn in 1987 during my second year of high school. I want to thank you again through this opportunity.”
The episode will feature reinterpretations of Han Young-ae’s famous songs by the performers, along with various stories from her life. ‘Immortal Songs – Artist Han Young-ae Special’ airs Saturday the 16th at 6:05 PM on KBS 2TV.
