On the 16th, Jang Dong-joo announced on his Instagram, “I am selling the Calling Art Center, which I have been operating since 2020.” The Calling Art Center is a complex cultural space where Jang Dong-joo is listed as the representative, featuring a cafe and facilities for live performances and events.
He further explained, “It is a complex cultural performance venue that has brought youthful energy to Sharosu-gil through diverse performances by many artists.” He added that the space is currently operating normally and can be used for performances, rentals, events, and as a 24-hour unmanned cafe.
Jang Dong-joo added that he is “considering a quick transfer of rights due to his schedule” and asked interested parties to contact him via DM (Direct Message).
Just a day earlier, on the 15th, Jang Dong-joo suddenly announced his retirement on Instagram. “As of today, I intend to let go of my life as actor Jang Dong-joo,” he stated. “Although I am leaving the stage, I will never forget the love you have shown me. I sincerely thank you for loving actor Jang Dong-joo until now.”
He also shared, “I received so much love and support while living under the name of an actor for a long time. Every moment I laughed and cried in front of the camera was the brightest time of my life.” He expressed his gratitude to the directors, staff, and fellow actors who believed in him, and especially the fans who stayed by his side.
Previously, in January, Jang Dong-joo confessed that he was a victim of phone hacking and blackmail, which reportedly led to debts amounting to billions of won. Some speculate that this is the reason behind his departure from the entertainment industry. Amidst this situation, the news that he is selling his art center located in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, is sparking further curiosity.
