Koo Kyo-hwan, who was trembling with fear before his debut as a movie director, found strength in the embrace of Go Youn-jung and has become strong once again.
In the 9th episode of the JTBC Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’ (hereafter ‘Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa’) aired on the 16th, Hwang Dong-man (played by Koo Kyo-hwan) officially stepped into the professional world by signing a support contract with the Korean Film Council.
Along with the signature came a heavy sense of responsibility. Ko Hye-jin (played by Kang Mal-geum) warned him, “People like you were yesterday, and they’ll rush in hoping you fail,” while Park Young-soo (played by Jeon Bae-soo) brought him back to reality, saying, “There will be times when not a single scene is filmed as intended, and you’ll want to run away.” Having spent time watching the ‘lion within us’ in his imagination, he has now stepped into the rough ring to face that lion himself.
It was Byeon Eun-ah (played by Go Youn-jung) who lifted Hwang Dong-man up from his fear. While Hwang Dong-man suffered and repented for his past self who wished for failure even in front of a celebratory cake, Byeon Eun-ah embraced him, saying, “If you want to run away, I’ll let you run away anytime.” Empowered by her unconditional support, Hwang Dong-man delivered a mock acceptance speech for the Best New Director award in front of Byeon Eun-ah, expressing his sincere gratitude by saying, “I wouldn’t be standing here if it weren’t for you.”
The clue to his final assignment before the actual shoot, ‘strengthening the evil details of the protagonist,’ was found in an unexpected place. The threats from a loan shark, stemming from an accident involving his pet cat, became the decisive turning point.
Hwang Dong-man realized that the loan shark’s curses and threats weren’t scary, but rather ‘boring and old-fashioned.’ Piercing through the essence that evil is never truly strong, he visited the loan shark on his own and overwhelmed him with his momentum to settle the debt. The sight of Hwang Dong-man solving his homework of making the protagonist look strong, shouting, “There is no evil in me, there is strength!” provided a thrilling chill.
Meanwhile, tension rose as Oh Jung-hee (played by Bae Jong-ok) recognized her biological daughter, Byeon Eun-ah, hiding behind the pen name ‘Young-sil.’ Curiosity is piqued about how she, who once worked behind the scenes to steal roles in the past, will act regarding her daughter’s screenplay. Additionally, the mysterious bond between Jang Mi-ran (played by Han Sun-hwa), who possesses animal-like instincts unlike her cold mother, and Byeon Eun-ah is breathing new life into the drama.
Episode 10 of ‘Mo-Ja-Mu-Ssa’ will air on Sunday the 17th at 10:30 PM on JTBC.
