Actress Kim Hyang-gi has opened up about why she took a bold leap with a choppy bangs style for ‘Romance’s Absolute Value’.
We recently met Kim Hyang-gi at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, where she stars in the Coupang Play series ‘Romance’s Absolute Value’.
‘Romance’s Absolute Value’ is a high teen series following Yeo Ui-ju, a high school girl who writes BL novels featuring handsome teachers. Her life takes a wild turn as she encounters them in real life. Kim Hyang-gi plays Yeo Ui-ju, who lives a double life as an ordinary student by day and a BL novelist by night.
Talking about her buzzed-about choppy bangs, Kim Hyang-gi shared, “After my previous project ended, my hair was at an awkward short length. I would have needed hair extensions to go long.” She added, “I wanted the character of Ui-ju to have a comic-like feel. She even wears red glasses to pursue her dreams. Considering those settings, I felt a short bob suited her better.”
She further explained that she added the bangs as a highlight after cutting her hair short. “I wanted to bring out the comedic elements, and I thought the bangs would be the funniest point,” she said. “I believed a bob combined with choppy bangs would perfectly capture the character of Ui-ju.”
She also shared her family’s reaction to the look. “My family just likes things that are ‘pretty.’ They laughed and asked, ‘Why do you keep doing things like that?’ They tend to prefer a more polished, pictorial-style look,” she said with a smile.
