Gangneung's Shin-young Theater Celebrates 14th Anniversary with Carl Dreyer Special Exhibition!

A special exhibition dedicated to the master of Danish cinema, Carl Theodor Dreyer, kicked off on the 16th at the Gangneung Independent Art Theater Shin-young and will run until the 25th.

To celebrate Shin-young’s 14th anniversary, this special event will screen 17 feature and short films, ranging from director Carl Dreyer’s 1919 debut ‘The President’ to his final work, ‘Gertrud,’ from 1964. Thanks to support from the Korean Film Council’s project to encourage public movie-going, tickets are super affordable, ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 KRW for adults.

Director Dreyer is a legendary Danish filmmaker who established a unique cinematic universe starting from the silent film era. He once said, “The human face is like a land that one never tires of exploring,” and he spent his career projecting the inner depths and souls of humans onto the screen through the actors’ faces.

In particular, the images and faces of women who endure suffering with a strong, independent spirit are considered hallmark characteristics of his work.

On the 22nd at 7 PM, after a screening of ‘Day of Wrath,’ one of Dreyer’s late masterpieces, there will be a special lecture by film critic Jung Ji-hye, a programmer for the Busan International Film Festival.
