MBC’s ‘Oh Eun-young Report – Again, Love’ introduces the ‘Hand and Foot Couple,’ featuring a husband who has lost his will to live and a wife determined to save him.
The story of the ‘Hand and Foot Couple’ will be revealed in the second part of MBC’s ‘Oh Eun-young Report – Again, Love,’ airing on Monday the 25th. ‘Again, Love’ is a two-part special presented by the Current Affairs and Education Bureau, the team behind the tear-jerking ‘Human Documentary Love.’ While the first part, featuring the ‘Baeg-geu Couple,’ touched hearts with a husband’s devoted love for his terminally ill wife, the second part aims to deliver a deep resonance and the true meaning of love through a family clinging to each other amidst despair.
Tragedy struck the ‘Hand and Foot Couple’ in an instant. While riding his bicycle, the husband was suddenly pulled under a dump truck that made a sudden right turn. The accident was so severe that it was reported in the news. Recalling the horrific moment, the husband shared, “My arm got caught in the tire, and the bicycle was sucked in. I could even hear the sound of my arm being crushed. I told my wife and children that I loved them and that I was sorry, and I barely survived just before death,” leaving the studio in sighs.
His wife has been by his side, acting as his “hands and feet” to help him hold onto the will to live. Recalling the time she had to wait indefinitely for her husband in the operating room, she sobbed, “My only thought was that he just shouldn’t die. I kept praying for him to stay alive.” After barely regaining consciousness and seeing his condition, the husband fell into deep despair. He confessed his devastated feelings, saying, “How can I live without arms and legs? I thought I should just die.”
The husband confessed that he continues to suffer from trauma, stating, “When I close my eyes, the moment of the accident keeps coming back, making it hard to fall asleep. I keep regretting why I rode the bike when my wife told me not to, and why I took that specific road at that time.” In response, Dr. Oh Eun-young noted, “PTSD is not something that recovers just by enduring it. Not only the husband, but the wife, who witnessed the accident, is also experiencing indirect post-traumatic stress disorder,” drawing attention.
