Kim Sung-cheol Bids a Heartfelt Farewell to 'L' in 'Death Note'

Actor Kim Sung-cheol has shared his thoughts after the final performance of “Death Note.”

On the 26th, his agency Story J Company released Kim Sung-cheol’s reflections on completing his run as “L,” the mysterious world-renowned detective who faces off against the genius high school student Light Yagami in the musical “Death Note.”

Kim Sung-cheol expressed his deep affection for the production, saying, “Hello. I am Kim Sung-cheol, returning as L in ‘Death Note’ after three years. I’ve spent quite a long time with ‘Death Note.’ As the final performance approached, I remembered when I first prepared for it. It feels like just a while ago that I was vaguely imagining how this stage would be filled and drawn, but now I’m facing the end of my third ‘Death Note.’ Every time I performed ‘Death Note,’ it was a show that made my heart and me race like crazy.”

He continued, “Every moment I spent with L was happy and joyful. I truly love and thank the ‘Death Note’ team who protected this stage with me for a long time.” He also credited the audience, adding, “This performance would not have been perfect without the audience who helped create the show and sent endless applause and cheers.”

With visuals that highly matched the original work, Kim Sung-cheol heightened the tension of the play with restrained details, capturing L’s sensitive and persistent side. He also showcased outstanding skills not only in acting but also in singing, with an even richer vocal volume and solid pronunciation.

Meanwhile, Kim Sung-cheol is meeting viewers every week through the Disney+ original series “Gold Land” and is currently filming the new KBS2 drama “Sleeping Doctor.”
