‘Doctor Som Boy’ is arriving soon, bringing a perfect blend of cheerful laughter and heartwarming empathy!
ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Doctor Som Boy’ is set to premiere on Monday, June 1. On the 15th, the production released a main trailer showcasing the spectacular and chaotic life at the Pyendong Island health center.
‘Doctor Som Boy’ is a medical human romance featuring Do Ji-yi (Lee Jae-wook), a public health doctor who arrives at the notorious Pyendong Island, a place everyone avoids, and Yuk Ha-ri (Shin Ye-eun), a nurse with many secrets. The story follows these “island locals” as they save lives and learn about love through the residents of the remote village, delivering both warmth and heart-fluttering excitement.
Based on the popular webtoon ‘Jonber Doctor’ from KakaoPage and KakaoWebtoon, the drama is helmed by director Lee Myung-woo, known for hits like ‘Boyhood’ and ‘The Fiery Priest’. With his signature rhythmic directing and sense of humor, fans are eager to see how he handles the romance genre. Director Lee Myung-woo previously achieved a massive record with a peak viewership rating of 22% for ‘The Fiery Priest’. The series also promises high quality with writing by the meticulous Kim Ji-soo.
The main trailer begins with Do Ji-yi’s arrival at the health center. While the center looks peaceful on the surface, the reality is a “24-hour complaint standby.” Pyendong Island quickly turns into total chaos with endless emergencies and crises. The war-like daily life of falling and tumbling suggests that living on Pyendong Island will be anything but easy.
It is also intriguing to see Yuk Ha-ri supporting Do Ji-yi as he struggles with his blurring identity as a soldier, doctor, and civil servant. As Yuk Ha-ri suddenly approaches him, saying, “You have to clearly cross the line to save people,” Do Ji-yi begins to break down his walls, responding, “You’re the one who said let’s try it,” creating a heart-fluttering connection.
The upcoming storms are also a point of interest. The sight of the health center staff fearing the sea and their patients for various reasons piques curiosity. In the beautiful but isolated Pyendong Island, Yuk Ha-ri notes, “The people here only have you to rely on when they’re sick,” leaving viewers curious about their growth. The smiles shared between Do Ji-yi and Yuk Ha-ri suggest a story where an island they wanted to escape becomes a place they want to stay.
