ENA’s Monday-Tuesday drama ‘허수아비’, inspired by the Lee Chun-jae serial murder case, has come to a close with ratings in the 8% range.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 27th, the final episode (Episode 12) of ‘허수아비’ recorded a nationwide rating of 8.1%, marking its own highest record.
In the finale, the protagonist Kang Tae-ju (played by Park Hae-soo) was shown continuing his fight to uncover the truth even after 30 years had passed.
As serial killer Lee Yong-woo (Jung Moon-sung) confessed to all his crimes, Lim Seok-man (Jeon Seok-chan), who had been falsely accused, was finally declared innocent after 30 years.
Thanks to Kang Tae-ju’s revelations, Cha Si-young (Lee Hee-joon) also ended up in court. However, he still refused to admit his wrongs, and the violent detectives who collaborated with him avoided legal punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, suggesting that the fight is far from over.
‘허수아비’ garnered significant attention as the first drama to use the Lee Chun-jae case as its subject since the real culprit was revealed in 2019.
Based on historical research, the series vividly portrayed the pain of the victims’ families and those who were falsely accused. It received praise from viewers for its unique direction, jumping between the past and present to deduce the culprit, as well as the powerful performances of actors Park Hae-soo, Lee Hee-joon, and Kwak Sun-young.
The drama now ranks as the second highest-rated drama in ENA’s history, following ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’.
