Starting May 13 at 10 AM, 2.25 million movie discount coupons worth 6,000 won each will be distributed! Each member of the four major multiplexes will automatically receive two coupons in their accounts. According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Film Council, if you combine this with “Culture Day” discounts, you could watch a movie for just 4,000 won!
This batch is the first half of a total 4.5 million coupons funded by the 2026 supplementary budget. The Ministry plans to release the remaining 2.25 million coupons in July during the summer peak season.
You can use these coupons on the websites and apps of CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox, and CineQ. Two coupons will be automatically added to your online member coupon box and applied on a first-come, first-served basis during payment. Once a cinema’s allocated quantity is exhausted, the discount ends, and any unused coupons in your account will disappear.
It’s not just for multiplexes! Independent and art house cinemas, small cinemas, and silver cinemas are also included. For those without online systems, coupons will be distributed on-site on a first-come, first-served basis. The Korean Film Council will reveal the full list of participating cinemas on the 13th.
Each coupon gives you a 6,000 won discount per ticket. However, if the final price drops below 1,000 won, the viewer must pay a minimum of 1,000 won.
Great news: these can be stacked with other discounts! They work with “Culture Day,” discounts for people with disabilities, seniors, youth, and early bird screenings. For CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox, on the second and last Wednesday of the month, you can combine the 10,000 won “Culture Day” price with this coupon to watch a movie for only 4,000 won.
Credit card billing discounts can also be applied if the card company’s minimum payment requirements are met. However, telecom member discounts cannot be used with these coupons. Additionally, those eligible for disability or senior discounts must receive their discounts on-site, regardless of online booking rules.
A representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated, “We hope these movie discount supports add joy to daily life as we welcome the warm spring and provide an opportunity for audiences to get closer to Korean cinema.” They added, “We will continue to provide policy support reflecting the voices from the field so that the recent recovery trend of audiences continues and the Korean film industry can leap forward once again.”
