A cruel 2-minute rule! In the ’90-second teaser mission,’ excessive direction led to a disappointing result. Master Director Lee Byung-hun delivered a sharp critique, stating, “There was a lack of understanding of short-form grammar… the initial impact was lacking.”

Under the slogan “If you can’t capture the audience in 2 minutes, there is no next,” a raw and fierce directing war unfolded, bringing thrilling excitement to viewers. However, in this high-tension survival stage, Director Seo Seong-won’s work couldn’t overcome the high standards of the judges. His short drama was criticized for failing to utilize the unique grammar of short-form content, which requires grabbing the viewer’s attention immediately, due to static direction and excessive editing.
After watching the piece, Director Lee Byung-hun gave his evaluation in his signature calm yet sharp tone. “I understand what story you were trying to tell,” he noted, but added, “From the moment the text appeared at the beginning, I felt that something was wrong.” He left a piercing critique, saying, “It’s a shame that there seemed to be a lack of intuitive understanding of short-form grammar.”
The cold reality of having the first elimination in just one episode sent a huge shock to the remaining participants and pushed the program’s immersion to the limit. Proving both entertainment value and professionalism with unpredictable developments and cold evaluations from the very first episode, ‘Director’s Arena’ airs every Friday at 11:10 PM on ENA.
