Ayane, the wife of singer and actor Lee Ji-hoon, has shared her thoughts for the first time following the “salt-free parenting controversy.”
On the 20th, Ayane posted on her Instagram, “I deeply value the opinions many of you shared regarding my previous post, and I will always strive to become a better person.” She continued, “This became an opportunity for me to rethink my attitude toward my child and those around me, and I realized that I have more growing to do than I previously thought.”
Ayane, who is raising a two-year-old daughter, sparked a debate earlier this month after expressing her frustration that her daughter was given candy at daycare. She had written, “My baby is still on a salt-free diet, so I haven’t even given her vitamin candy, but now she’s learned that she can eat it.”
Medically, salt-free or low-sodium diets are recommended for infants and toddlers. Because their kidneys have a lower filtration capacity than adults, excessive sodium intake can lead to health issues and may hinder skeletal formation as calcium is excreted along with sodium. Additionally, exposure to salty tastes during the development of taste buds can lead to lifelong eating habits that crave stimulating foods.
However, some netizens criticized her social media post, labeling her an “overbearing parent.” Addressing this, Ayane apologized, stating, “I have no hard feelings toward the daycare teachers, nor did I think they were wrong. I am sorry for causing any unnecessary misunderstandings.”
