BABYMONSTER has once again proven the strength of the “YG DNA” with their 3rd mini album ‘CHOOM’. More than just a comeback, the group is being praised for powerfully reminding everyone that YG’s unique color still resonates even in a standardized K-pop market.

Right after its release, the ‘CHOOM’ music video shot straight to #1 on YouTube’s “Most Viewed Videos in 24 Hours” and has already surpassed 54 million views. The performance video also topped 24 million views. Furthermore, the global craze continues with over 100,000 challenge videos created across major platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
Most notably, as the title ‘CHOOM’ suggests, the performance itself is being consumed like a cultural phenomenon. The powerful moves during the “Let’s CHOOM” section, the hand gesture twist during the “Watch out” whisper, and the rhythmic steps have gone beyond simple choreography to trigger an instinctive desire for viewers to join in.
Analysis suggests that this is a direct result of General Producer Yang Hyun Suk’s relentless attention to detail and persistence. According to YG, Yang personally participated in the choreography for the ‘CHOOM’ chorus. Instead of the usual method of assigning choreography to a few teams, he received drafts from as many as 10 different teams to select the most polished result.
This was less about creating “good choreography” and more about an obsession with creating a performance that could symbolize the song’s title. In fact, many fans have reacted that ‘CHOOM’ is a song that leaves a stronger impression when watching the stage than when simply listening to the music. This effectively maximizes YG’s signature performance-centric DNA.

This comeback is even more meaningful because it stands in stark contrast to recent K-pop trends.
While many K-pop teams currently focus on short-form viral content and light challenges, YG continues to emphasize the “power of the stage itself,” convincing fans through a single music show appearance or a live performance.
BABYMONSTER is also putting their confidence in live vocals and performance at the forefront of this promotion. They officially began their music show activities starting with MBC’s ‘Show! Music Core’ on the 9th and SBS’s ‘Inkigayo’ on the 10th. With the explosive reaction already generated by their content, their upward trajectory is likely to steepen once their live stage presence is added.
This aligns with the strengths of the YG family, which previously included BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK. Rather than simply following trends, they create new ones through the stage and performance. Indeed, since its release, ‘CHOOM’ has drawn reactions such as “Typical YG style,” “The stage quality is on another level,” and “The performance quality is overwhelming.”

At the center of this is Yang Hyun Suk’s persistence in not compromising on detail and perfection, along with a brand philosophy that has preserved YG’s unique color. With ‘CHOOM’, BABYMONSTER has become more than just a next-generation girl group; they are the team that once again makes the world say, “YG is indeed different.”
