Rapper BewhY, who previously caught attention with lyrics reminiscent of the National Election Commission during his appearance on Mnet’s ‘Show Me The Money 12’, has now included the voice of the late President Syngman Rhee in his latest track.
On the 8th, BewhY released the music video for his new song “SOUTHSIDE FREESTYLE” on his official YouTube channel. The intro of the track features the voice of former President Syngman Rhee saying, “It is news of life, it is news of freedom.”
Additionally, the song includes a line saying “Beauty’s voice is myeol,” followed by a beep, leading some to speculate that he was referring to “myeol-gong” (the eradication of communism).
This isn’t the first time BewhY’s lyrics have sparked debate. During the semi-finals of Mnet’s ‘Show Me The Money 12’ on March 26, he featured on Kwon Oh-sun’s “W.I.N.” His rap included the line, “You’ll be surprised when you strip it all down, the level is like seonguan-wi.”
Because “seonguan-wi” sounds like “Seongwan-wi” (the National Election Commission) when pronounced quickly, many reacted by questioning if the lyrics were a reference to claims of “rigged elections.” Some far-right groups, including supporters of Yoon Suk-yeol (known as ‘Yoon-Again’), who is currently imprisoned after being removed from the presidency due to a martial law declaration, have long claimed election fraud conspiracies.
BewhY also expressed his frustration on his Instagram story regarding current elementary school sex education.
He shared a photo of a textbook stating, “There is biological sex, which distinguishes men and women based on reproductive organs and physical differences, and social sex, which serves as a criterion for judging men and women socially and culturally,” and “It is more important to correctly understand the aspect of gender diversity than to distinguish sex.”
BewhY commented, “Are they sane?” and asked, “Is it illegal for educators to be educated?” He subsequently posted Bible verses, including “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” BewhY has frequently mentioned that he is a devout Christian.
The ‘Show Me The Money 5’ winner married a non-celebrity partner in 2020 and is now a father of two daughters. On the 2nd, he announced the closure of his label, Deja Vu Group, founded in 2017. At the time, BewhY wrote, “I failed. I have come to clearly know my capacity and have decided to let go of the things I was obsessed with.”
