Billlie members Suhyun and Haruna looked back on the moment they first heard “ZAP.”
A showcase for Billlie (Siyoon, Sheon, Tsuki, Moon Sua, Haram, Suhyun, Haruna) to celebrate the release of their first full-length album, “the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two,” was held on the afternoon of the 6th at the SBS Prism Tower Open Hall in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
This new release marks Billlie’s first full-length album since their debut in 2021. It carries a bold determination to no longer hide the “fragments that were ignored,” “the sides they were afraid to admit,” and “the anxieties they had locked away for a long time.”
Haram introduced the new album as a continuation of the second mini album “the collective soul and unconscious: chapter 1” released in 2022, stating, “We are releasing an album with a unique and distinct narrative again after four years. Since it is a full album, we took on various challenges and filled it with songs that can provide strength when you feel exhausted. We hope you give it a lot of love.”
The album features 12 tracks, starting with “SECRET no more,” which blends the keyword “secret” from a different perspective over a melody sampling Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake.” It also includes the title track “ZAP,” which depicts the moment of blocking out pouring gossip and endless external noise to return entirely to “the current me,” and the double title track “WORK,” which has already garnered attention for its rough beat and completely transformed image. From classic sampling to high-end tech house, modern Philly soul, new jazz, liquid drum and bass, and Baltimore garage, the album’s diverse and experimental composition aims to further expand Billlie’s musical spectrum.
Recalling when she first heard the title track “ZAP,” Suhyun said, “I remember it vividly. As soon as I heard it, I thought, ‘This is a song Billlie can really do well’ and ‘I think we can show a performance that only Billlie can deliver.’ I was so excited while preparing for the comeback.”
