VIXX member and actor Cha Hak Yeon showed off his deep friendship with his fellow members.
On the 11th, Cha Hak Yeon sat down for an interview at a cafe in Palpan-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. He shared various stories, including his role in the Coupang Play series ‘Absolute Value of Romance’ (Written by Lee Min-ju, Directed by Lee Tae-gon).
‘Absolute Value of Romance’ is a teen series about a high school girl who writes BL novels featuring handsome teachers, only to find herself the protagonist of a tumultuous school life as she encounters them in real life. Cha Hak Yeon plays the role of Ga Woo-soo, a cold-hearted beauty who is a Mensa member with an IQ of 156 and a mathematical genius.
When asked about the members’ reactions to ‘Absolute Value of Romance,’ Cha Hak Yeon shared a funny story: “Recently, Hyuk sent me a scene where I appear as Pythagoras, wearing a wig and fake beard. He just replied with ‘As expected.’ When I asked ‘Why? What do you mean?’ he didn’t reply,” he said, sparking laughter.
He continued, “Whenever there’s a scene that might make me feel embarrassed, he just drops a comment and runs away. That’s how he supports me.” He also boasted about their strong bond, adding, “We gathered at Leo’s house recently, and he told me which scenes he found interesting to watch.”
Since Leo and Ken have also appeared in BL dramas, they shared related experiences. However, Cha Hak Yeon explained, “Neither the members nor I approached the acting as something particularly different. We tried to stick to the script. We just talked to each other if there were any difficult parts in the acting.”
He added, “Recently, Hyuk had a script, so we read it together. He’s been curious about comedy lately. Since I’ve done genres with a lot of comedy, we talked about things like ‘where and when to bring out the humor’ for certain lines. He even asked, ‘How would you deliver this line if you were me?’ We had a reading together while chatting about some really boring things.”
VIXX held a full-group fan concert last February for the first time in seven years. Cha Hak Yeon caught attention by hinting, “We are approaching our 14th debut anniversary. The reason I met the members recently was to discuss what would be good to do for the 14th anniversary. We can’t do anything huge right now, but the members are quietly planning something together.”
