Choi Kang-rok on ‘Sikpoiller’: “Tuna is the Most Expensive Fish in the World… One Sold for 4.7 Billion Won!”

Choi Kang-rok on 'Sikpoiller':

The crew set off on a tour to find the finest tuna!

In the episode of SBS’s ‘Choi Kang Road Sikpoiller’ (hereafter ‘Sikpoiller’) aired on the 12th, the members were seen embarking on an exciting tuna tour.

Chef Jung Ho-young joined the members for the trip. As the four of them boarded a boat heading to Yukjido, Choi Kang-rok explained, “We’re heading to a tuna farm in Yokjido. Yukjido succeeded in the first domestic tuna farming in Korea.”

Jung Ho-young, who has experience handling tuna from Yokjido, caught everyone’s attention by adding, “It’s truly great. The quality of the fat is on another level. Farmed tuna is much oilier and tastier. Because they grow eating wild sardines and mackerel, they’re different even at the same size.”

Choi Kang-rok shared a poignant fact, saying, “Tuna are sad fish. From the moment they’re born, they can’t rest for a single second. They receive oxygen while swimming, so they die the moment they stop. They are the fastest and most expensive fish in existence.” He further revealed, “A top-grade tuna from Oma in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, was once auctioned for 4.7 billion won.”

Surprised by this, Defconn asked, “Is one tuna really worth 4.7 billion won?” to which Jung Ho-young explained, “It serves as a promotion to attract customers. It’s more of a marketing price than a pure market value.”
