Comedy Masters Unite! Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, and Heo Sung-tae to Star in MBC's Action-Comedy 'Fifty Percent'

Actors Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, and Heo Sung-tae are teaming up for the MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Fifty Percent’.

MBC’s ‘Fifty Percent’ is a “salty” action comedy about three men who may look ordinary now but were once top-tier pros. Having run 50% of their lives, they find themselves pushed by the world and rusted in body, but their loyalty and instincts remain as sharp as ever as fate brings them back into action.

The story follows these three men, who were once at the peak of their respective fields, after they are exiled to the remote Yeongseondo island following a certain incident. The drama will humorously yet poignantly depict their journey to uncover the truth that has been buried for 10 years.

The series is helmed by Director Han Dong-hwa, known for the genre-defying ‘Bad Guys’ series and ’38 Task Force’, as well as the critically acclaimed ‘Navillera’ and ‘Detective’s Log’ series. With the addition of Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, and Heo Sung-tae, the lineup is looking incredibly solid, raising expectations.

With both the production team and the cast in perfect harmony, this ambitious MBC project is already proving to be a must-watch.

▲ Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, and Heo Sung-tae begin secret double lives… The synergy ‘Fifty Percent’ will bring

Shin Ha-kyun plays Jung Ho-myung, once the NIS’s number one black agent. After leaving the agency under false accusations, Ho-myung hides his identity on Yeongseondo, working as a successful chef at Oran-banjeom while chasing the object that ruined his life. Having starred in ‘Thank You’, ‘The Chronicles of Evil’, ‘Yonder’, and ‘Beyond Evil’, Shin Ha-kyun, often called a god of acting, brings immense reliability to the character of Jung Ho-myung.

Oh Jung-se takes on the role of Bong Je-sun, a North Korean special agent who has lost his memory. Je-sun was once North Korea’s ultimate human weapon known as ‘Bulgae’, but after an accident during an operation, he washes up on Yeongseondo. He now struggles with his identity and a power-tripping boss while searching for his lost memories. Fans are eager to see what kind of life-defining character Oh Jung-se will create this time.

Heo Sung-tae transforms into Kang Beom-ryong, a legendary gangster turned convenience store owner. Once the second-in-command of the Hwasan-pa, Beom-ryong comes to Yeongseondo to chase Ho-myung and the mysterious object for revenge after his organization collapsed. While supporting his big boss in prison, he harbors a grand plan to set everything right. Heo Sung-tae’s shift toward a more human side, following his heavy presence in various works, is highly anticipated.

‘Fifty Percent’ promises thrilling fun through the secret double lives of three men who have buried their dangerous pasts. In particular, the tangled interests and conflicts between Jung Ho-myung, Bong Je-sun, and Kang Beom-ryong are expected to create a spectacular synergy, pushing viewers’ anticipation to the max.

▲ Half-and-half menu, 100% tension… The beginning of a chase

The teaser poster released on the 21st captures the attention of viewers with a high-angle shot of Shin Ha-kyun, Oh Jung-se, and Heo Sung-tae sitting at a round table. In contrast to their serious expressions as they stare into space, the half-and-half menus in front of them, such as Jjamjjamyeon, Tangjjamyeon, and Jjam-bok-bap, add a touch of humor.

This wittily captures the tone and manner of ‘Fifty Percent’, where viewers can taste both action and comedy, while maximizing the fun through the contrast between the three characters.

The accompanying moving poster heightens curiosity by peeling back a layer of the secret relationship between the three men within the drama’s signature black comedy wit and humorous mood. A single handgun placed in the center of the round table is particularly eye-catching.

The tension rises with the gun spinning like a game of Russian roulette and the subtle psychological warfare between the three men watching in silence. This metaphorically represents their tense relationship of chasing one another, leaving fans wondering how the dynamics between Jung Ho-myung, Bong Je-sun, and Kang Beom-ryong will unfold.

Combined with comic BGM and a narration saying, “That night, our fates changed,” anticipation for the first episode is skyrocketing as fans wonder what happened 10 years ago and what triggered them to move again.

Following the teaser and moving posters, the new MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Fifty Percent’ will premiere on May 22nd at 9:50 PM, succeeding the drama ’21st Century Grand Noblewoman’.
