Dayoung Opens Up About Her Grit: Overcoming 1.2 Billion Won Debt and Finding Strength in Her Mother's Tears

Singer Dayoung has opened up about the driving force behind her incredible grit.

In the MBC show Omniscient Interfering View aired on the 23rd, Dayoung appeared as a solo singer, showing a total 180-degree transformation from being the youngest member of WJSN to a total “hot girl.”

Dayoung looked back on her trainee days when she left Jeju Island for Seoul at the young age of 13 to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. Originally from Chuja-do, Jeju, she began nurturing her dreams through the audition program K-pop Star. She revealed that she endured difficult times, staying at a friend’s house or living in a gosiwon while preparing for auditions.

“Looking back now, I don’t think I felt it was hard. I think I was just filled with passion,” Dayoung recalled calmly.

She also revisited the story she previously shared on another broadcast regarding her parents’ divorce and her family’s financial struggles. Recalling the damage caused by Typhoon Nari, Dayoung mentioned that her father had left a debt of 1.2 billion won in her mother’s name.

“I saw my mom, who was always strong and cool, break down and cry for the first time,” Dayoung shared. “My mother worked two or three jobs without rest to make a living. Even then, she told me, ‘Jeju women are naturally strong. You must live bravely wherever you are.'”

She added, “That was the first time I realized how serious the situation was, and I felt that I had to protect my mom.” She emotionally shared, “I used to be immature, but after going through that, I suddenly grew up.”
