Director Jang Hang-jun recently looked back on his memories from the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards.
On the May 13 broadcast of MBC FM4U’s “Two O’Clock Date with Ahn Young-mi,” Director Jang Hang-jun appeared as a guest. He has earned the title of a “16 million director” thanks to his hit film “The Man Living with the King.”
Directed by Jang Hang-jun, “The Man Living with the King” has surpassed 16 million cumulative viewers, ranking second in all-time box office success.
Recalling the awards ceremony, Director Jang said, “Two people I considered very important won. Personally, I wondered what it would have been like if Yu Ji-tae had won, as he truly deserved it. However, Lee Sung-min sunbaenim was just too incredible in ‘It Can’t Be Helped’.” He also mentioned, “Jeon Mi-do was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, but she came in so cheerfully without any expectations, which made her feel at ease.”
He added, “Yu Ji-tae and I didn’t say it out loud, but we secretly thought there was a possibility, but Lee Sung-min sunbaenim was just too strong.”
When asked about the atmosphere of the after-party, he revealed, “Yoo Hae-jin was nominated for Best Actor in the film category. But Park Jung-min from ‘Face’ won. I love ‘Face’ and he did a great job, but I thought, ‘Wait, if Yoo Hae-jin isn’t Best Actor, are we being completely neglected right now?'”
He continued, “Among ourselves, we were sure Yoo Hae-jin would be Best Actor, so when I heard he didn’t win, I wondered what was going on. But then he won the Grand Prize! I cheered just like the moment the 88 Seoul Olympics hosting was decided.”
